Look What I Did!
(December 08, 2011)
Yes, I won NaNoWriMo! What that means for those of who you don't know is that I wrote 50,000 words on a novel during the month of November. I'm actually not done with the novel yet, but I'm almost there. I'm approaching the climax of the story and the ending is proving to be far more difficult to write than any of the parts leading up to it. I don't know if that's normal or not.
My novel is a comedy. It's a spoof-comedy. I wanted to see if an Airplane type spoof could work in novel form. The conclusion I've come to is a resounding "sort of!" Although actually for this first pass I've been focussing on the plot and characters. The best spoof movies out there have a solid plot and good characters. I'll add more jokes and wackiness during the editing stage.
The story centers around an Indiana Jones type paleontologist who is excavating a velociraptor and makes a discovery that changes everything we thought we knew about the evolution of the dinosaurs. As they excavate the site they cross paths with the notorious West Nile Baptists Holy Congregation and Seafood Emporium.
Spice Rack subscribers got a sample of the novel in the latest issue of the Devo Spice quarterly newsletter which went out this morning. Once I'm done editing the novel they will also receive the entire novel as a free PDF download.
