Cirque du So What?

What do you get when you combine four comedy-music veterans from The Dr. Demento Show and remove the musical portion of the comedy? A sketch-comedy group that is greater than the sum of its parts!

Shoebox of Worm Quartet (Dr. Demento's #1 artist of 2004) wanted to write some sketch comedy and teamed up with the great Luke Ski (Dr. Demento's #1 artist of 2002, 2003, 2011, and 2014) to begin work. They quickly asked Devo Spice (Dr. Demento's #1 artist of 2005 and 2007) to join their ranks and later invited Chris Mezzolesta of Power Salad (Dr. Demento's #1 artist of 2008) into the fold, and for several years the group worked in secret writing sketches ranging from the sublime to the absurd. Finally, in 2010, the four got together in Rochester New York to record the first batch of sketches. The result was something Luke Ski referred to as "the greatest weekend ever" and an album titled Procrastinators of the Apocalypse.

The group got together again in 2012 and recorded so many sketches that they released them over the course of 2 albums. Stupid Cowboy Thing Volume 1: GRANDMOTHER! was released in 2012 and Stupid Cowboy Thing Volume 2: Additional Squid was released in 2013.

Each artist in Cirque du So What has his own style of writing and comedy, but when aided by the other three the comedy is elevated to a new level. The four comedians complement each other quite nicely. The sketches are generally short and easy to digest (although one does approach the 10-minute mark, and is, ironically, about digestion problems, so to speak). There are also recurring characters, such as Superhorse and the infamous Tile Guy, who is the cause of many people shouting "Tile!" and "Okay!" at gatherings where any of the members (although Chris in particular) are present.

Several of the sketches have been hits on The Dr. Demento Show, such as "Elevator," "Green Eggs and Peas," "200 Minutes Of Free Prayer Time," and "StoogerFighter." The group's official web site is BaconNipples.com, because nobody can spell CirqueduSoWhat.net.
